WOMEN AGAINST CANCER

At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek we work together to give every patient the right care. Still too many people die of cancer because the right treatment has not been developed yet. In order to develop this treatment we need top scientists, equipment, time and, very important, money.

You can help us. Every donation, small or big, is welcome and supports cancer research in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek

The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation makes sure that your donation directly and fully benefits the outstanding cancer research in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek.

Questions:

What is the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation?

The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek in Amsterdam is the only comprehensive care center in the Netherlands. We range in the top 3 Centers in Europe. In our center we combine research and care for cancer patients. We are no ‘normal’ hospital where a person with a broken leg can go to, only cancer patients find their way to our hospital.

The Antoni van Leeuwenhoek foundation raises funds for cancer research and makes sure that your donations directly and fully benefit the outstanding cancer research in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek.

Why is more research into cancer needed?

At the moment too many people still die of cancer, as there is no fit treatment for every form of cancer yet. In order to develop this treatment we need top scientists, equipment, time and, very important, money.

You can help us. Every donation, small or big, is welcome and supports cancer research in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek

Can you name an example of what Antoni van Leeuwenhoek is working on?

Every person is different and every person has his own unique DNA. So why treat every person with for example breast cancer, the same way? We have further developed Personalized Medicine. We look at the DNA of the patient and put together a therapy and treatment fitting for this patient. At the moment we treat some forms of breast cancer, cancer of the prostate, head-neck cancer, lung cancer and melanoma with personalized treatments. In a few years we would like to be able to treat all patients with personalized medicine. In order to be able to do this, we need to perform more research on the gene mutations that lead to the detection of cancer.

What can the people at this WAKO event do to support cancer research?

The women referees of WAKO have started a great campaign in order to raise funds for cancer research. At every event, national and international, merchandise is sold. Like this t-shirt, or this bag (show examples). The profit of these items goes to cancer research in the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, and we are very happy with this initiative! I really hope that you will support us, and the women referees from WAKO, by buying these special items, or by putting a donation in one of the boxes.

Thank you very much!
